Get your documents ready for their next step.
Legal Route assists individuals, families and businesses with notarization, certified true copies, affidavits and statutory declarations. Tell us what document you have and where it will be used so we can confirm the appropriate service and appointment requirements.
In-person appointments at our Brampton office. Ask about remote commissioning for eligible documents across Ontario.

Not sure which service the recipient needs? Share the document's name and any instructions you received. We will explain what to provide next.
We provide in-person notarial services for documents requiring a notary's witnessing or verification of a signature, subject to the document's requirements.
Bring the complete document and the recipient's instructions. Leave the signature section unsigned until directed at your appointment. If you have already signed, let us know before attending so we can explain the appropriate next step.
We compare a copy with the original document and, where appropriate, certify that it is a true copy.
This may be required for identification, educational records, professional applications or other administrative purposes. Bring the original document and tell us how many certified copies you need. The receiving organization may have its own rules about which documents and certifications it accepts.
We commission eligible affidavits and statutory declarations by administering the required oath, affirmation or declaration and completing the commissioning formalities.
These documents may be used for court, government, insurance, business or personal matters. Bring the complete document, including any exhibits or attachments. You must understand the statements you are making and be able to swear, affirm or declare them truthfully.
We assist with in-person witnessing of signatures on child travel consent letters.
Tell us who needs to sign, where the child is travelling and whether the airline or receiving authority has provided a form or instructions. Bring the completed unsigned letter and the identification required for each person signing.
If consent is disputed or a parenting order may affect travel, legal advice may be needed before signing. Our Family Law services can address the underlying legal issue separately.
We assist with preparing pet travel consent or authorization letters and notarizing the owner's signature where required. These letters may be useful when a pet travels with another person or a transport provider requests written authorization from the owner.
Provide the pet's identifying details, the owner's and accompanying person's information, travel dates, destination and any airline or transport-provider instructions. We will confirm the preparation and signing requirements before your appointment.
A consent letter does not replace veterinary health certificates, vaccination records, import permits or other travel requirements. Requirements vary by destination and carrier.
A document being sent abroad may need notarization, an apostille, authentication or additional consular steps. The requirements depend on the document, its origin and where it will be used.
Provide the receiving organization's or consulate's written requirements before booking. We can assess the notarial work requested and explain whether additional steps need to be addressed.
Apostilles and authentication certificates are issued by the relevant government authority, not by Legal Route. Notarization alone does not guarantee that a document will be accepted abroad.
Some affidavits and statutory declarations may be commissioned by video when the legal requirements can be met and the receiving organization accepts the process.
Ask us to assess your document before booking. If remote commissioning is appropriate and available, we will explain identification, video-call, signing and document-return requirements.
Notarization and certified true-copy services are handled in person. Remote commissioning should not be treated as an interchangeable substitute.
If your document needs drafting, corrections or advice about its legal effect, tell us before arranging a signing appointment.
We will assess whether we can assist and confirm the scope and fee separately. Preparing a declaration, reviewing an agreement and simply witnessing a signature involve different work.
Independent legal advice or representation for a property transaction, guarantee or family agreement must be arranged as a separate legal service. A notarial stamp does not replace that advice.
Please have the following ready:
Leave signing sections unsigned until instructed. Each person whose signature is to be witnessed must participate in the appointment as required.
If you need an interpreter, an additional witness or assistance accessing the office, let us know when booking so arrangements can be discussed. Our office is on the second floor.
Use the inquiry form or call our office. Include the document's name, the service requested, the number of people signing and any deadline. You do not need to upload identification with your first inquiry.
We review the request, explain what to bring and confirm whether an in-person appointment or eligible remote commissioning is appropriate.
We confirm identity, review the signing requirements and complete the agreed service where the requirements are met.
Keep track of any original documents, delivery arrangements or additional government steps needed after the appointment.
We confirm the applicable fee before your appointment based on the service, number of notarizations or commissioned documents, and copies required.
Document drafting, substantive legal review, additional witnesses, printing and courier arrangements may involve separate charges. We explain applicable HST and any additional charges before you agree to the work.
A standard signing or copy-certification appointment does not include legal advice about the underlying transaction unless that service is separately agreed.
Commissioning involves administering an oath, affirmation or declaration for a document such as an affidavit. A notary can also perform notarial acts such as verifying signatures and certifying true copies. The receiving organization's requirements determine which service you need.
No. Some documents may qualify for remote commissioning, but notarial services such as notarization and certified true copies require an in-person process. We assess the document and the recipient's requirements before confirming the appointment format.
Leave it unsigned unless we direct you otherwise. If it has already been signed, tell us before your appointment so we can assess what is required.
For a standard certified true-copy appointment, bring the original document. A photograph, scan or photocopy alone does not provide the same basis for comparison. If your original is an electronic record, explain this when booking so we can assess the request.
Tell us what you need the document to accomplish and provide any instructions you received. We will confirm whether we can prepare or review it and quote that work separately from the signing or commissioning service.
Notarization does not, by itself, establish that the contents are correct, an agreement is enforceable or a transaction is legally effective. Legal advice about the document is a separate service.
No. The relevant government authority issues an apostille or authentication certificate. We can assess any required notarial work; additional processing must be arranged separately unless expressly included in our agreed services.
Tell us the language and destination when booking. We will assess whether we can assist and whether an interpreter or translation is needed. Do not assume that translation or certification of a translation is included.
A person cannot ordinarily substitute for you where your own signature must be witnessed or your oath or declaration taken. If someone is signing under a power of attorney or for a corporation, tell us in advance so the authority and document requirements can be assessed.
Requirements vary by destination, carrier and travel arrangement. Confirm what the airline, transport provider and relevant authorities require. If a consent or authorization letter is requested, we can assist with its preparation and the appropriate signing service.
Call during office hours and explain your deadline. Appointments depend on availability, the document and any preparation required. An online inquiry does not reserve an appointment or confirm that we can meet a deadline.
